Rules of Play
All members of the San Ignacio Ladies Golf Association will play in strict accordance with USGA (latest edition) Rules of Golf and any local rules established by the director of Golf of the San Ignacio Golf Club. It is strongly suggested each member become familiar with the rules.
Remember, golf is a game whose basic tenets include honesty, good sportsmanship and adherence to the rules of etiquette. Any violation of these basic tenets may be cause for suspension or termination from the Association.
Following is an interpretation of the Local Rules established by the San Ignacio Ladies Golf Club.
Definitions
Lateral Hazards - marked with red stakes and red lines. Play the ball as it lies, no penalty; OR can HIT from original spot; OR a drop may be taken, no nearer the hole, two (2) club lengths from point at which the ball LAST crossed the margin of the hazard; OR go back as far as you want BUT keep the point where ball last crossed the hazard and the FLAG in a straight line - one stroke penalty. (The ball may be lifted and cleaned when proceeding under this rule.) (Rule 26).
Water Hazard - marked with yellow stakes and yellow lines. Play the ball as it lies, no penalty; OR can HIT from original spot; OR a drop may be taken behind the water hazard, no nearer the hole, going back as far as you want, keeping the point where the ball last crossed the hazard and the flag in a straight line - one stroke penalty. (Rule26)
Nearest Point of Relief - nearest point of relief is the point for taking relief without penalty from interference by an immovable obstruction (Rule 24-2), an abnormal ground condition (Rule 25-1), or a wrong putting green (Rule 25-3).
Note: It is the point on the course nearest to where your ball lies; not nearer the hole, and when dropped, no interference by condition from which relief is sought.
Provisional Ball - if you think your ball may be LOST outside a water hazard OR may be OUT OF BOUNDS, (to save time) play a provisional ball. If you DO NOT inform players "I am playing a provisional ball", the second ball hit becomes "BALL IN PLAY". If you hit a great "provisional shot" but someone finds your original ball, you are NOT allowed to abandon the original ball. It MUST be played and the provisional ball must be picked up.
Unplayable Lie - the player may deem his ball unplayable at any place on course except when the ball is in a water hazard. The player is the sole judge as to whether his ball is unplayable. Replay from original spot; OR drop within two (2) club lengths of spot where ball lay, no closer to hole, (one (1) stroke penalty for each two (2) club lengths); OR drop as far back as you want, keeping ball in straight line with flag and where the ball lay - one (1) stroke penalty. Ball can be cleaned before it’s dropped. (Rule 28)
Local Rule - rocks/stones in sand bunkers may be removed when such rocks/stones interfere with play, but you CANNOT remove any rocks, etc. in a hazard.
Red Rocks - in small red rock areas, player shall lift the ball and drop it without penalty within one club length of and not nearer the hole, on a part of the course which avoids interference by the condition.
Javelina Damage - may be declared "ground under repair" and the ball dropped, without penalty, within one club length, not nearer the hole, at nearest point of relief.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO FILL FAIRWAY DIVOTS, REPAIR BALL MARKS ON THE GREENS, AND RAKE SAND BUNKERS.
